Multi-modal Transportation Planning

Master Thesis Proposal in Robotics and AI

The supply chain for SMEs in the northern region relies on multi-modal (rail, road, sea and air) transportation. Different modes have heterogeneity in terms of transportation time, price, and connectivity. The planning for a logistics adhering the delivery deadlines and minimum cost is crucial. The aim of this thesis is to provide a planner for logistics operations with multi-modal transportation.

  • One master thesis students can work this thesis with focus on logistics planner.

  • Different modes have constraints eg. Railways have specific schedules.

  • The algorithm should consider the uncertainty in the environment such as dynamic obstacles.

  • The project needs a good end demonstration with multiple ground vehicles and UAVs to illustrate her/his algorithm on real experiment.

  • The method should be implemented in ROS in order to be validated and directly placed to the real platform for experiments.

  • The participant has a weekly discussion with her/his supervisor in order to be guided.
