PERSEPHONE EU Project Update

The first tests of LTU’s autonomy stack were deployed at the Grecian Magnesite S.A. underground mine to collect LiDAR point cloud and visual data on the abandoned area. The visual data provides valuable insights into the unique conditions of abandoned mines. The challenging terrain characterized by narrow passages and complete darkness shows significant contrasts compared to active underground production areas. During these tests, the robotic platform has been equipped with an autonomy sensor package incorporating 3D LiDAR, an RGB-D camera, IMU, and an onboard computer. All the tests have been successfully completed and allowed to create a 3D point cloud map of the abandoned area.
