Space Robotics
Space robotics is the new frontier in space research community, envisioned to accomplish many challenging objectives for the next generation space missions. Fundamentally, space robotics operation can be broadly classified into three categories, e.g. in-orbit operation, planetary exploration, and autonomous space transportation for interplanetary and deep space missions. In support of the never-ending human curiosity about exploring the universe, our vision is to establish next generation fully autonomous space robotic technologies characterized by advanced learning, cognition, and reasoning as the key enabler for pushing the boundaries of the state-of-the-art mechanisms.
Space Robotics Laboratory Facility and Related Activities:
Our activities in space robotics autonomy are supported with multiple floating robotic emulation platforms, designated as ‘Slider’, performs as the virtual demonstration tool for emulating space alike satellite motion. The working principle of the slider is characterized by its friction-less, levitating, yet planar motion over a hyper-smooth surface. The Slider is integrated with visual navigation sensors and actuator units, is fully designed, and manufactured from the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Team at Luleå University of Technology. We are working together towards establishment of our envisioned space Lab with advanced facilities, which will be operational shortly.
